Yi-Hsuan Nemo Hsiao

About Me

Born and raised in Taipei, I received a STEM-focused education that sparked my interest in robotics. After high school, I moved to Hong Kong to study mechanical engineering, where I worked on aerial robots with Prof. Pakpong Chirarattananon. In my junior and senior years, I participated in exchange programs at Georgia Tech and TU Delft, contributing to the development of the flapping-wing aerial robot, Delfly, with Dr. Matej Karasek under Prof. Guido de Croon.

After completing college and the military service in Taiwan, I began my PhD in EECS at MIT, where I work with Prof. Kevin Chen on integrating soft actuators into flapping-wing aerial systems to enable multi-modal locomotion. I hope that these human-friendly soft flapping robots will one day achieve performance comparable to that of their natural counterparts.

During my free time, I enjoy playing sports. I was on the baseball team in high school and later joined the Hitmanics baseball team when I lived in the Netherlands. At MIT, I now play badminton with the MIT Badminton Club and also swim and run casually on campus.
